by Alli Bonugli, AmeriCorps Summer VISTA
Food insecurity and poverty is a large problem in the communities of Waco, Tx. The location of the Red Oak Townhomes creates a barrier to accessing traditional summer and after school meal programs.
With that, the Mclennan County Hunger Coalition and a generous anonymous donor have put together a baseball memorabilia drawing to combat this issue. The funds raised from this drawing will be use to run the after school programs. Due to COVID-19 the current summer meal program was canceled, but the director hand delivers meals daily to the children in the community.
The items collected for the drawing are as followed;
Joe DiMaggio signed 1939 Life Magazine (LOA)
Mickey Mantle signed 1965 Life Magazine (LOA)
1993 commemorative World Series mug
2005 Upper Deck factory sealed baseball card packs
2007 Texas Rangers Ian Kinsler bobblehead (never opened)
Superheroes Night poster — Indians v. Rays April 21, 2007
Bradford Exchange limited edition Ken Griffey Jr. hometown hero plate no. 4185A
Houston Astros Deep in the Heart: Blazing a Trail from Expansion to World Series– Bill Brown and Mike Acosta with Introduction by Pres. George H.W. Bush, Bright Sky Press, Houston, TX; Copyright 2013
For a donation of $5 you will receive one entry into the drawing. For a $20 donation you will receive 5 entrees into the drawing. Please use our secure PayPal link to enter (you will receive a emailed receipt to verify your entry)
